First of all, I hope you had a great New Year's holiday and I hope you plan on making 2013 your healthiest year ever. Don't know about you, but I'm still sketching out a few health goals for the year - including getting more sleep and being more active. How about you? What area of wellness would you like to work on? If you're still undecided, get out your note-taking app right now and jot down some long-range goals that you want to accomplish by December 31.

Like a wise person once said (I forget who) -

"If it's not written down, it doesn't get done."

Speaking of goals, that brings me to the main point of this post - the press release that I embedded below. The release has some info that might help you reach your health goals through the wonders of technology. Before you check it out, let me ask you something.

Guys, why do so many health articles and advice columns target only women?

Except for a few sites like Men's Health and Men's Fitness, I swear at least 75 percent of the health articles I read are geared towards chicks. For example - I was doing some research for blog posts when I stumbled across this press release from Body Media (they make a fitness-tracking device and smartphone app). I don't have a major problem with the press release - it actually has some useful info about ten health apps and gadgets. (I should point out that the purpose of the release is to spread the word about Body Media's products.) It's just that the wording is obviously geared towards women. If you read the press release, you'll see where it says -

"flaunt your figure in skinny jeans"

I mean, come on. Did they not think men would be interested in their product as well as women? I'm sure Body Media did market research that told them women were the main buyers of these weight management tools, but still. That being said, I still recommend reading the press release if you own a health gadget or use any online fitness sites like RunKeeper. Keep in mind that the Body Media products are only one version of wearable fitness monitors that are on the market. I posted about two similar products that help people track their activity and calories burned - Striiv and Larklife.

  1. Great question you have pointed us to in the opening of your post. "Why do so many post and blogs target women?".

I also write on health topics and with time I understand that women are more responsive to this topic.

    1. Hey Ion, thanks. Yeah, I think more men would be interested in wellness topics if they were presented in the right way.

  2. Maybe the reason why do so many health articles and advice columns target only women is because women are more concern to their body than men. Thank you for sharing these tips.

    1. Hey Ren I agree with you. Men have to learn that there's more to health than just physical appearance.
